Types of Retaining Walls

There are several retaining wall types that are commonly used in backyard landscaping all with their own benefits. A gravity retaining wall utilizes the mass of the heavy materials they are crafted from in order to hold back the pressure from soil pressed against it. A cantilever retaining wall has a “stem” made of very durable materials which allow pressure from the surrounding environment to keep it held upright, even against gravity and the natural pressure of the soil. The Ciminello’s Landscaping design center and showroom offers an in-person look at many of the material options we have to offer. Photos and material samples can be misleading and we prefer to have our clients walk on stones and pavers, feel the materials themselves, and see the colors in person.
